Answers to Questions For New Customers
I work on ANYTHING containing an 8 track player, including combination radio/8 track units for classic cars.

For classic car RADIOS needing repair:  Due to issues concerning parts availability and long term reliability, I will
only perform COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE INTERNAL ELECTRONICS - that is, ALL NEW PARTS.

I will not go digging through junk units and install used parts in a customer's unit "to keep it all original".  I consider
this unacceptable workmanship, with no way of knowing how long the unit will continue to operate satisfactorily.  My
reputation, both in the classic car community and at previous day jobs, is that MY WORK HOLDS UP - and I have much
documentation from my last day job right here on the website, proving I maintain a
less than 1% warranty return rate.

I will not perform any work - or fulfill any request - that tends to compromise the
QUALITY of my workmanship.

Because of this, my shop is better suited to "daily drivers" than concourse "points" cars requiring 100% originality.

Modern conversion DOES NOT CHANGE YOUR RADIO'S APPEARANCE, but can add MANY desirable features.
General Capabilities
Services I Do Offer and General Prices
Combination radio/8 track units:  If the output section is okay and the radio section is easily repaired, the price for
the entire unit is usually 395.00 plus return shipping.  In this situation, the warranty ONLY covers parts replaced.  If
there is melted shellac dripping from the output transformers or other signs of overheating, UNIT MUST BE CONVERTED.

My prices for "stock repair" on most types of 8 track players and combination radio/8 track units can be found

CONVERSIONS and Additional Options
Conversion adds Stereo FM to an existing AM radio, and greatly increases the audio power for use with up to 4 speakers.
Maximum power output requires a fully isolated speaker system, with NO common, grounded or shared speaker wires.
The radio's original connectors are removed and replaced with a 12 wire harness, which must be wired into the system.

Use of the radio's original connectors is also possible, but with the power output being only equal to the original radio.

A converted radio can also be fitted with Bluetooth capability, a USB reader and an AUX input for portable audio devices.

When I perform a conversion, the warranty covers the ENTIRE UNIT except your original controls and tuner assembly !

Warranty

On "stock" repairs, my warranty covers work performed only for one full year from the day unit is delivered to you.
ON STOCK REPAIR JOBS, THERE IS
NEVER A WARRANTY ON THE OUTPUT SECTION.

On conversions, my warranty covers the ENTIRE UNIT except your original controls and tuner assembly.

"Do I Get a Price Break For More Than One Job?"

No - do I get a break on the warranty for more than one job?

"Will You Accept Another Radio as Partial Payment?"

No - my policy is to never install used parts in a customer's unit - thus I have no use for a spare radio.

"Do You Also Do Cosmetic Restoration?"

I clean the units using ordinary household chemicals, cloths and fine steel wool.  Rechroming is up to the customer,
as well as locating replacement dial faces, knobs, missing original connectors, etc.  I just work on what's there.

"Can I See Some Samples of Your Work?"

From my "Videos" page, you can see (and hear) more than 100 You Tube videos of my completed jobs.

"How Do I Interface a Converted Radio With Other Fancy New Equipment?"

A converted radio has industry-standard input, output and speaker levels and impedances.  I do not get involved
in discussions concerning customized systems.  If the customer is not sufficiently educated in basic electronics
and audio signal flow to figure this out himself, he will likely damage something even with my limited guidance.
In some cases depending on system complexity, the services of a local audio technician might be necessary.

"I'm Ready to Get 'Er Done - How Do I Proceed?"

If you like, you can call me at 928-533-9666 to discuss any last-minute details.  You MUST print and fill out a
Work Order
and pack your unit exactly as shown on my "Packing" page.  The Work Order asks all necessary
questions to determine your choices and preferences, along with a price schedule.  To get started, click

STOP AND READ THIS BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER !

I will not accept ANY jobs that are not packed MY WAY - NO EXCEPTIONS !  Most radios have delicate control shafts
attached to a 10 pound hunk of steel, and MY WAY OF PACKING protects these controls from being bent or broken.
MY WAY OF PACKING involves a very easy-to-make protective cardboard sleeve.  If I open your package and see your
radio
without this protective sleeve, I WILL NOT EVEN TAKE THE RADIO OUT OF THE BOX and will SEND IT RIGHT
BACK TO YOU
UNSERVICED .  I'm here to fix radios, NOT CUSTOMERS' CARELESSNESS IN PACKING.

NO ONE MAKES NEW REPLACEMENT CONTROLS, they can only be found on a similar model.  A SINGLE BROKEN
CONTROL TURNS A ROUTINE JOB INTO A HOPELESS, FRUSTRATING NIGHTMARE that I
will not be a part of.  If
you send me a radio that is not packed MY WAY, that will immediately
end our relationship for all time !  I will not
repack it for safe transit; I will readdress the package and send it back packed YOUR WAY which may damage it more.

To prevent any chance of arguments and ensure fairness on both sides for ALL customers, my shop has VERY
STRICT POLICIES that customers must agree to IN WRITING by filling out and signing the Work Order.  If you refuse
to follow my safe packing techniques and insist on packing it "your way", YOU ARE IN VIOLATION OF MY POLICIES
ALREADY, THUS SHOWING ME THAT YOU WILL BE A
DANGER TO MY COMPANY.  This will NOT happen in my shop.

I have had MANY customers blow off my insistence on safe packing methods, thinking they know how to pack their
radios.  Most of them arrive DAMAGED, resulting in a waste of precious shop time.  So I'm making it much simpler:
PACK YOUR RADIO
MY WAY, AND MY WAY ONLY, OR I WILL SEND IT RIGHT BACK TO YOU UNSERVICED .

If this offends you and causes you to take your business elsewhere, then you're not a customer I want anyway.
I cannot perform top notch workmanship and offer top notch service when a customer sends me broken JUNK.

If you've made it this far and still want to do business with me, then by all means - please continue reading.
